Busaba's Thai Cuisine is housed in The Scheuermann-Drinkard building, located in the Historic Entertainment and Business District of Downtown Mobile, Alabama. Our building was designed and built in 1893 by Rudolph Benz. Today, it is only one of several buildings built by Benz in the area to survive.
The Scheuermann-Drinkard building is a two story dark red brick Victorian structure. After being vacant and in ruins for approximately nine years, the owners of Busaba's leased and began renovation of the historic building in the year 2000. Renovations were completed and our doors opened to the public on June 7, 2001.
On October 1, 2002, Busaba's Thai Cuisine incorporated itself in The State of Alabama. The owners of the previous partnership, Busaba Sirirux and Roy Pope, assumed full control of the corporation's shares.
On October 6, 2004, Busaba and Roy purchased the Scheuermann-Drinkard building from attorney Vaughan Drinkard, thereby giving Busaba's Thai Cuisine a much firmer presence in the downtown business community.
Busaba Sirirux, M.B.A., is a native of Thailand. She received her B.S. in accounting from Bangkok University in 1989, then went on to earn her M.B.A. at Mobile's U.S.A. in 1994. In 2000, Busaba completed her education as a Thai chef at Sataputchan, a culinary school in her hometown of Cholburi.
Prior to going into the restaurant business, Busaba was a partner and Managing Director for Patana Sinn Motors, a Honda motorcycle finance company located in Cholburi, Thailand.
Roy D. Pope, Jr., Ph.D., was born in Pisa, Italy, though he spent most of his years growing up in Mobile, Alabama. He earned his A.S. in accounting from Mobile's P.J.C. in 1992. He then went on to receive his Ph.D. in religion from U.L.C. in California, then to study computer science at Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, N.J. Roy is currently a member in good standing of the Dharma association Kung-Ji Gompa.
Roy is also the owner-operator of Blue Aegis Software & Marketing, a shareware and website design, development and online markekting company located in the building next door to Busaba's Thai Cuisine.
